A while back, Mojang tweeted that they will be replacing the Nether Reactor. Unfortunately though, they cannot replace it with the actual Nether, due to storage problems. However, it was also tweeted that they are looking for better ways to do it, then the Nether Reactor.
One of the most promising ideas that Mojang has come up with, is to add a Nether Chamber. This will act just like the Nether, but smaller. Sort of like how MCPE seeds right now have limited space, the nether will to, but smaller. Of course, do not expect to see the nether chamber any time soon, as right now Mojang is currently working on the 0.8.0 and 0.9.0 updates. I would expect to see it in update 1.0.0 or later.
